According to Andy Hayler, the CEO and co-founder of analyst firm The Information Difference, it is increasingly dawning on companies that an effective data governance programme is key to the success of master data management (MDM) projects, which are fast emerging from the territory of pioneers into the mainstream.The Information Difference and the Data Governance Institute joined forces to find out what is the real state of play among companies with respect to data governance. One hundred and thirty four organisations with active data governance initiatives worldwide took part in the survey.
The survey discovered, among other things, that:
- 9% of multinational companies enforce business rules in source data
- one in five do data quality audits
- 60% fail to maintain a business risk register

About the Speaker: Andy Hayler is one of the world’s foremost experts on master data management. He was a Principal Technology Consultant for Shell International, engaging in major software evaluation and procurement projects at the enterprise level. He then set up a global information management consultancy business which he grew from scratch to 300 staff.

He is now co-founder and CEO of The Information Difference, an analyst and market research firm, advising corporations, venture capital firms and software companies. He is a regular keynote speaker at international conferences on master data management, data governance and data quality.
